Equatoria Women Organisation (EW0) South Sudan
Equatoria Women Association is an Umbrella Association for local women NGOs formed on the 9th July, 2003 in a conference held in Yei, attended by over 300 women representatives from Greater Equatoria Region ( Western, central and Eastern) and the Diaspora. It is an indigenous, nongovernmental and nonprofit making Association which seeks to promote human rights with focus on women’s right, participation in governance, access to information on basic services like health, education, gender related issues, food security and improved livelihoods in the poor or marginalized communities through effective and efficient collaboration and coordination with CSOs/NGO and other stakeholders working on related issues for sustained response to Women empowerment.
Since 2011, STAD and EWA (one of the accredited Civil Society Women Association) has been closing working on the implementation of projects under the Dutch National Action 2 (NAP 2) projects initiated by United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 in South Sudan as one of the focus countries. The Security Council resolution (S/RES/1325) on women, peace and security reaffirms the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts, peace negotiations, peace building and peacekeeping, humanitarian response and post-conflict reconstruction. It also stresses the importance of women’s equal participation and full involvement in all efforts for the promotion of peace, security as well as calls all parties to conflict to take measures to protect women and girls from gender-based violence (GBV), particularly rape and other forms of sexual abuse in situations of armed conflicts.
